GIG, tribute to George and Ira Gershwin

The project

GIG, like their initials

I called this tribute GIG, the initials of the two brothers, a word that also means “concert” for American musicians.

I wrote it for a septet built around one of my favourite ensembles, a string trio, and asked Nicolle Rochelle to join us and give new life to these magnificent, timeless songs.

Nicolle Rochelle

From Broadway to Joséphine Baker

A precocious talent, she began on television at the age of eight alongside Ringo Starr. Between episodes of The Cosby Show, she studied singing, dance and tap, made her film debut in Tales from the Darkside, then joined the cast of Fame on Broadway.

On stage she played in Limonade tous les jours, directed by Zoa Cadawell, and Princess Katherine in Henry V at the New York Shakespeare Festival. Her meeting with Jérôme Savary brought Paris to her feet, cheering her as Joséphine Baker.
